ABELDent Update FAQ
Understanding ABELDent 15
ABELDent 15 is the latest version of the ABELDent software. It provides the features that you have come to expect from ABELDent, as well as many improvements and new features. ABELDent 15 appears different than previous versions, as a result of its updated modern user interface, but is familiar to users of recent ABELDent versions. ABELDent 15 also includes major improvements in patient communication, data security and protection against cyber threats.
There is no specific threat known to target or harm older versions of ABELDent. However, ABELDent 14.8.2 and earlier versions are based on earlier technology that, over time, becomes increasingly vulnerable to existing and new threats. ABELDent 15 includes a major technology update that provides greater protection against potential threats. With added threats powered by AI, ABELDent 15 provides much greater protection for your ABELDent software and practice.
ABELDent 15 will continue to bridge to the same third-party imaging solutions supported in earlier versions of ABELDent. In addition, ABELDent is actively under development and may include bridges to new third-party solutions or new versions of previously supported solutions.
Patient-initiated booking is an optional feature in ABELDent that does not need to be enabled. The feature only allows for templated appointments of a certain length to be scheduled, allowing you to maintain control over the integrity of your schedule.
If you use the Cloud version of ABELDent 15, your system will automatically be backed up on the Microsoft Azure cloud. If you use the Local Plus version of ABELDent 15, which is run on a local server housed in your practice, you can arrange to backup your system locally in your practice, or you can arrange to backup in the Cloud. ABELDent offers a cloud-based backup service.
Yes, all the patient records in your current ABELDent system will be available in ABELDent 15, along with all the data contained in those records. Older financial records will be archived, which means that they will be available to view in the patient records but can no longer be modified.
All your custom lists and documents will be transferred and available in ABELDent 15.
Preparing for the ABELDent 15 Update
While ABELDent 15 has much in common with previous ABELDent versions, it also includes a lot of new technology and is a major update in ABELDent functionality.
As a result, we encourage ABELDent users to prepare for this important update. This preparation includes the use of self-guided tools, such as a Learning Management System, as well as assistance from the ABELDent team.
ABELDent users with an active Software Maintenance Agreement, or that pay a monthly Subscription Fee, are entitled to use ABELDent 15. ABELDent 15 is the next logical update for clients using ABELDent 14.8.2 or earlier.
The Guided Update Plan provides you with what you need to have a successful update to ABELDent 15 for a flat rate. This includes services such as online training, project management, and configuration assistance, as well as data update and cleaning. The guided update Plan also includes self-directed tools that you can use at your own pace, including a Learning Management System, recorded Group Training sessions, and a trial version of the ABELDent software.
The ABELDent Guided Update Plan is available for a single payment of $2000 and includes everything that you need to update successfully. As a special time-limited incentive, we are offering the Guided Update Plan at a reduced price of $1000 when you purchase the Guided Update Plan from one of the Microsoft AppSource or Microsoft Azure Marketplace web stores.
During the month of June 2025, we are offering a special that will refund the cost of the Guided Update Services as a credit applied toward the cost of your ongoing ABELDent Subscription or Software Maintenance fees. When this special offer expires at the end of June, you will be responsible for the cost of the Guided Update Services.
ABELDent LMS is a Learning Management System that allows your team to learn ABELDent and build their ABELDent expertise. ABELDent LMS is comprised of short videos that demonstrate ABELDent’s features or provide a conceptual understanding of some aspect of the software.
ABELDent LMS content is organized into courses, each covering the relevant material for a specific role in the dental practice – reception, clinical staff, Office Manager, etc. ABELDent LMS also allows each user to track their progress and quizzes that help them test their ABELDent knowledge.
Although ABELDent 15 has much in common with previous versions, and is familiar to experienced ABELDent users, we recommend that clients prepare for the update using available self-learning and Trainer-led training methods. The user interface has more modern look, and there are many improvements and new features that will benefit for preparation before an update.
The amount of training required will differ from practice to practice. When you register for the Guided Update Services, you will be assigned a Project Manager that will help your team acquire an appropriate amount of training. Training is included in the Guided Update Services.
ABELDent uses Microsoft web stores as they are a convenient way to allow access to our products to a large number of people. There are incentives to a company like ABELDent to use the Microsoft web stores, which allows us to offer our products at a reduced cost.
Yes, you can purchase on AppSource without our assistance. However, this site is designed for purchases by businesses, and it has some requirements not found on other web-stores. Most notably, you will require a Microsoft Business or School account in order to make a purchase from AppSource. Many people do not have this kind of account. ABELDent will help you create this type of account for the purpose of this purchase, and to complete the purchase.
We require approximately eight hours for the ABELDent Implementation Team to complete the update to ABELDent 15. In addition, there are several steps taken to prepare for the update, although these steps do not require that your system be unavailable for your use.
There will come a time when it is no longer feasible for us to continue improving and supporting older versions of ABELDent. This can be the result of a lack of support for old technology, threats affecting old technology, regulatory issues, or a reduction in the number of practices using an older version.
There is no specific timeline for the discontinuation of support for earlier versions of ABELDent, although little or no new development is planned for version prior to ABELDent 15. Support for ABELDent 14.8.2 will be available for some time, although this can change based on factors outside of our control.
There is no increase to your monthly payments when you update to v15. When you update to ABELDent 15, you will continue to pay the same monthly fee that you have been paying for your current version. However, if you choose to use the Cloud Version of ABELDent 15, there will be an extra monthly cost for the use of Microsoft Azure to store your data.
ABELDent provides tools that are designed to allow a user to become familiar with ABELDent 15. These include a Learning Management System (LMS), that is comprised of short videos organized into courses, as well as ABELDent Freemium, a trial version of ABELDent 15 that is free to use and allows you to gain experience with the new version before you update. These tools are included in the Guided Update Services, which can be obtained at no cost during the month of June 2025.
While you are entitled to update to ABELDent 15 as a benefit of your Software Maintenance or Subscription fee, there is an additional cost to store your data on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform. However, you will save the costs associated with the purchase and ongoing maintenance of a server in your office, since the cloud version uses Azure instead of a local server.
